Project Blue Book Series

Back in the late 70's, NBC television aired two seasons of "Project U.F.O." The show was created by Jack Webb, famous for his role as Joe Friday on Dragnet. Webb's show was loosely based on the Air Force's Project Blue Book.

Now, Robert Zemeckis is headed to the History Channel with a new UFO investigation series titled "Blue Book." A scripted show based on, you guessed it, the government's Project Blue Book.

The actual Project Blue Book was open from 1952 through 1970 and Zemeckis says the show will follow investigations from the time periods of the actual investigations. The show will follow Dr. J. Allen Hynek, lead investigator for the real Blue Book and actual case files from the project will be used as basis for the stories. Ten episodes have been ordered. According to network president Paul Buccieri:

"Blue Book is inspired by the true covert events of an era in American history shrouded in mystery. Robert Zemeckis and the creative team have shaped an incredibly compelling narrative, building upon History's unique, growing brand of fact-based scripted programming."

The original show ran from 1978-1979. It was never re-aired due to a rights dispute.

No release date has been announced for the new series.
